The Grushin Sh-Tandem

The Grushin Sh-Tandem was an experimental ground attack aircraft, with tail planes as large as 45% of the wing area. It got it's designation from Shturmovik-tandem (tandem attacker), other designations included Tandem-MAI and MAI-3, from the institute where is was designed and built. Twin tailfins placed BELOW the 'tail wing' for unrestricted gunner's operation. Main gear was retractable.

Flight test started December 5, 1937 and lasted until 1939 (pilot P.M.Stefanovsky). Results were positive, better than typically observed for tandem aircraft. But lack of support did not allow the aircraft to enter mass production.

Special note: For my X-Plane version of the Sh-Tandem I did not include the rear gun turret. You can assume that it has been removed and the opening faired over for your test flights.

The Sh-Tandem is currently at version 1.2. Version 1.1 added a three bladed prop, 1.2 fixed it!!
